Happy Day plus an entire Happy first 'normal' week!! Yes, we've settled into our new 'normal' here at Oak City Fibers. It's been so much fun this week. We're continuing to meet new people and make new fiber friends!! I'm excited to share so many new and upcoming plans for the community of OCF Fiber Enthusiasts. THANKS to each and everyone of you for your continued support by shopping local and supporting dreams!! My team (Chris, Ann, Jeannette, Cheryl and I), have learned so much and had so much fun! We hope you have as well! We are working diligently to setup excellent classes and Knit-A-Longs, Crochet-A-Longs and want to hear from YOU and what you would like to participate in!!! That's why we are here!!! FOR YOU!!! I've made replinishing orders for yarns and notions and ordered some NEW yarns to be arriving in the coming weeks!! Likewise, our Fiber Top provided by our local dyer and spinner, Joyce, of Touch of Fiber will be bringing in new inventory as well so keep an eye out for that right at the front door!!
We have started the "One-Skein-Crescent Shawl" by Brian Smith for our Wednesday KAL's (Afternoon and evening) and Winey Wednesday was a huge success!! We plan to have that finished by end of November and start a new KAL for December. Email me at glen@oakcityfibers.com if you have a great pattern you'd like for us to use for the next KAL!! I have updated the OCF Calendar with the events for December. I've also met with 2 great ladies that will be teaching fabulous classes in Knitting starting in January so please keep following us for updates on those opportunities!! We will have Winey Wednesday's every week from 5:00-7:30p.m. (Excluding the Wednesday of Thanksgiving). Bring your own refreshment or walk down the side walk to Hop Yard and purchase what you want!!
***CORRECTION*** TO: Crochet-A-Long begins THIS WEDNESDAY! Jeanette, my Crochet Specialist, has chosen the "Sweater Wrap Scarf" by Carrie M. Chambers (free pattern can be found here: https://ravel.me/sweater-wrap-scarf ) Please get to OCF early Wednesday or come Tuesday sometime and purchase your yarn for this CAL. You can also purchase your yarn online and we will have it wound for you when you arrive for the CAL. Jeanette has chosen Berroco ULTRA ALPACA (worsted weight) as her yarn and it's crocheting up beautifully!! OCF has a huge selection of colorways in Berroco Ultra Alpaca for you to choose from or you could use Berroco Vintage, Twisted Willow Merino/Linen (indy Dyed), or other worsted weight yarns in the shop for this exciting project!!!
For any project, whether it be CAL, KAL or something you just want to cast-on, I gladly, actually love, to place special orders with my vendors to meet your creative ideas. Come in the shop and speak with me or give me a call @919-301-8994 and we can work out the details!
Peggy, an extremely talented knitter and crocheter plus a dear friend of mine, has a knitting crank machine. She has some beautiful kits for fingerless mitts which you can purchase at the shop and take her class this Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at 12:30. You will leave the class with a completely finished pair of mittens. Class fee is $15 plus the cost of the kit you choose. Prices vary based on yarn choice and size.
Reminder: We are here to meet your needs and learn from you as much as you want to learn from us!! Project and Technique based classes in Knitting and in Crochet will be scheduled soon with classes to begin in early January 2024. Please call the shop with suggestions or better yet, come in and visit if you have a project you'd like us to teach in either craft. I want a FULL Calendar with lots of fun learning opportunities plus CAL's and KAL's continuously going at Oak City Fibers. Please follow/like and do all that jazz on Facebook and Instagram regularly to see updates. I update the website regularly with classes and events so that is the best place to find the latest schedule.
Lastly, MARK YOUR CALENDAR!!! Oak City Fibers will host it's first "Holiday Party". The event will be on Friday night, December 15, 2023, 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Chris and I will be hosting an 'appreciation' dinner and will be providing Pizza for everyone! Please bring your own drink of choice and if you'd like to bring a dessert to share with fiber friends, please let Glen know!! We will provide all the paper products and the classroom will be our dining room! We hope you will come out and enjoy a relaxing time of crochet, knitting, eating and laughter!!! Let's see who can play a good game of "yarn chicken" !
I hope we can all continue in this wonderful world of fiber, supporting and loving on one another!! We appreciate your ongoing support and look forward to serving you even "more better" in the future! Remember, Support Local or Local won't be here!! See you at "The OCF" soon! Happy Day! Glen
