Crochet an adorable African Flower Hippo with Eri, and open your skillset to the fun world of African flower animals! 

Dates:  January 4, January 25 and February 8, 2025
Time: 1:30 p.m.- 3:30 p.m.

Your instructor will be Eri Farbstein, a talented fiber artist from Japan. You can check out her other African flower creations on Instagram @eleviejapan.

Please see materials student should bring to class. If an item is not listed, the teacher will be providing it. Provided materials for this class include: safety eyes and polyfill.

For the example project, we used Malabrigo Rios yarn from Oak City Fibers. Feel free to use whatever color combinations you prefer! Worsted yarn (100% Superwash merino wool) **ALL Yarn for the class MUST be purchased from Oak City Fibers!**

Our sample hippo was made with Malabrigo Rios. You will need to choose the following amount of Yarn:
- Center flower color (also used for
sewing) // 1 skein
- Two petal colors // 1 skein each
- Body color // 2 skeins
PLEASE NOTE that our hippo has one less row per flower than the linked pattern. This is
our personal style. Should you want to complete your flowers exactly the same as the
pattern, you will need an additional color.

Prerequisites: This class is recommended for advanced beginners to intermediate students of crochet. Students must be familiar with creating a magic circle and using hdc, and dc.

Students will learn how to...

● Pin motifs according to a diagram

●Spiked dc
●Sew motifs sturdily to prevent future
tearing
● Stuff crocheted animals
● Create french knots with yarn

Supplies Needed for Class:
● 3.5mm crochet hook
● Yarn needle (for sewing)
● Stitch markers, at least 50
● Yarn (see above)

Eri Farbstein is a talented fiber artist from Japan who attended fashion school. Her
specialties are crochet, tatting lace, and hardanger embroidery. After marrying a man from the USA, she moved to Raleigh with the dream of learning English and starting her own crochet business. Right now, she teaches crochet and beginner sewing classes.

Class Policy -

  • Refunds or store credits for pre-paid class registrations can be made only if we are notified at least two weeks in advance of the beginning of class.
  • Missed classes will not be made up unless the instructor agrees or was unable to teach or the shop was unexpectedly closed.
  • Refunds or store credits for missed classes cannot be made.
  • We require a minimum of two students for each class; in the event that signups do not meet that minimum level, the class will be cancelled and we'll issue refunds for class registrations.  If yarn was purchased for the class; the yarn refund policy for all yarns listed on our Policies webpage.
