Ready to take your knitting projects to the next level in 2025? Learn how to read a knitting pattern! Bring in a pattern that intimidates you, and let’s work through it together. We’ll cover standard abbreviations, reading charts, and how to read your knitting so you can figure out where you left off. Have a project you’re stuck on, bring it in and we’ll get you unstuck. 

Please bring a knitting pattern(s) you’d like to practice reading and projects where you’re stuck.

You will learn how to read a knitting pattern; how to count rows in your knitting; how to read a basic chart.

Class dates are May 31 - 11:00-1:00

Mari has been knitting for 15 years and has published 120+ knitting patterns. Her patterns have been published in major knitting publications like Interweave Knits, Knitscene Magazine, I Like Knitting, and more. She’s  taught knitting classes at Carolina FiberFest, Southeastern Animal Fiber Fest (SAFF), and LYSs around the country. She took a break from professional knitting and pattern writing in 2017, but was thrilled to dive back into teaching again at OCF in 2024.

Class Policy -

  • Refunds or store credits for pre-paid class registrations can be made only if we are notified at least two weeks in advance of the beginning of class.
  • Yarn for classes must be purchased from Oak City Fibers
  • Missed classes will not be made up unless the instructor agrees or was unable to teach or the shop was unexpectedly closed.
  • Refunds or store credits for missed classes cannot be made.
  • We require a minimum of two students for each class; in the event that signups do not meet that minimum level, the class will be cancelled and we'll issue refunds for class registrations.
